Roxercat – I Changed Today (2022)

With decades of experience in the music industry, Price Jones (vocals), Stan Lassiter (guitar) and Bill Francis (bass) create an eclectic, diverse sound as Roxercat. Can we call these artists veteran musicians? Perhaps, given that Jones marked the “beginning of decades-long songwriting, recording, producing and composing” with her relocation to Nashville in 1982. Lassiter is a classically trained musician and has performed with the likes of Spyro Gyra, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and iconic saxophonist Sonny Stitt. Francis began playing professionally with Pennsylvania-based rock bands touring throughout the US after graduating from high school. So, how did they meet and begin a band – all down to Jones’ rock opera project The Fortunate Few in which they were all involved; hence, Roxercat.

With only two singles on their discography, Roxercat is a relative newbie in the streaming world despite having been conceived approximately five years ago. Hot on the heels of their debut song ‘Pearls’, ‘I Changed Today’ leans further toward a vintage 70s/80s rock sound. A melodic arrangement of dynamic guitars, pounding drums and Price’s obscure vocals elegantly slithers into your brain and ensnares your senses. Interestingly enough, it is the harmonic instrumentation and well-placed guitar riffs that really push the concept of ‘I Changed Today’.

“This is a song inspired by life’s unexpected twists and turns. It’s about waking up one day and feeling that everything around you somehow looks and feels different…I’ve always felt life happens in chapters; sometimes, I sense that a major paradigm shift is about to occur. I have no idea what it is that’s about to happen or whether it’s going to be good or bad. I just feel an unexpected and profound sense of a change out of the blue…” – Price Jones on ‘I Changed Today’

Sincere, sentimental and insightful with a rough, rugged obscurity, Roxercat makes a profound statement with their new single ‘I Changed Today’.
