With positive vibes that weave around playful yet angsty tones, the single is a light against the black of the lingering darkness we all feel. With a touch of film noir and a splash of darkwave and dark pop, she fills you with the emotions of the track.
Drawing on sci-fi fantasy and gothic productions, the single was written as a positive visualisation track to get through the last days of quarantine. Rebecca Huston, the woman behind the music, creates soundscapes that are more reminiscent of scenes from theatre instead of hyper pop.
‘Doors’ uses pulses and deep beats to grab your attention with a really interesting opening. There is a dark futuristic feeling to the melody as the various layers crawl over your skin. The melody is quite unlike anything else you might be listening to. While the higher warbling tones are all sci-fi and futuristic tones, there is something gothic to the lower levels. The interplay of melodic elements brings a darkness to your senses while the higher tones are a lighter pull that is leading you out of the quagmire you might found yourself in.
Huston’s vocals bring a touch of film noir to the music before pulling at the futuristic vibes. You can easily imagine the single playing as part of a black and white film noir movie as rain hits the streets. There is a touch of Kate Bush to the movement of the track but this is covered in something that is purely Romantic Thriller. Later in the single, the vocals pick up the pace to run through your senses. There is a lot happening in this song but every element has been perfectly combined for an irresistible listening experience.
Romantic Thriller has you sinking into the richness of film noir while riding futuristic waves in ‘Doors’. The darkness of the single enhances the pulling light that wants to lead you to something brighter. There are a lot of melodic elements working together to form a stunning single that you can’t really get enough of.
