Romain Swan – Call Me The Devil (ft. Samer Elnahhal) (2023)

At age 14, French singer-songwriter Romain Swan accepted a small guitar from his great-grandmother to begin learning to play; skip forward a decade or so and Swan still hasn’t put the guitar down. Alright, it isn’t the same guitar his great-grandmother gave him but he is turning heads with his natural skill as a musician, author and composer. Known for engaging live performances, Swan intoxicates audiences with a blend of metal, pop and rock.

From his debut album, All These Things, in 2019 to the single ‘C’est par ici’ in 2022, Swan has turned heads of notable press like La Parisienne Life, Just Music, and Echo Républicain. He has also received airplay across the globe on Virgin Radio, iHeart Radio, and Centres Leclerc. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Call Me The Devil’.

A collaborative project with ex-Lordi bassist, Samer Elnahhal, ‘Call Me The Devil’ can possibly fall into the hard rock/metal genre category. Yet, while a strong metal tone belies the melody with a forceful aggression, Swan ensures the song is genre-defying. Weaving electropop elements into ‘Call Me The Devil’, there is a toe-tapping snap to the single with an electronic wavering in his vocal execution. Pop beats are present but at its core, ‘Call Me The Devil’ is a raw rock release.

Unlike his previous material, ‘Call Me The Devil’ takes full advantage of Elnahhal and Swan’s enthusiasm for metal. Gritty, bold and brash, a slam of hard rock guitars hit you in the face; however, a delicate elegance is noted with a slice of orchestral metal in Elnahhal’s backing vocals sparking something unique and unusual. Finding a balance between soothing darkness and charming light, ‘Call Me The Devil’ is a kaleidoscopic sonic thrill of epic proportions.
