Rolko – Emerald Stones (2022)

With an aim of ensnaring a listener’s ear and taking them to a lighter, more soothing ethereal dimension, Rolko is something special to experience. Eclectic and intriguing, the boundary-breaking musician can be described as eclectic and obscure. Featuring in blogs like Obscure Music, the US-based artist is reaching audiences and building a following across the globe. Come with us as we look at Rolko’s single ‘Emerald Stones’.

The fourth single from his full-length album Hidden Hotel Rooms, ‘Emerald Stones’ has a strong leaning toward indie rock with tinges of alternative pop sprinkled through the melody. Unlike many of the other tracks on Hidden Hotel Rooms, ‘Emerald Stones’ is soothing, smooth and flowing, but with a darker edginess woven through the arrangement. Combining dynamic guitars with delicate synths, there is an eclecticism and sophisticated obscurity to the song; however, it is Rolko’s vocal execution that gives the track an “it factor”.

Within the new album, Rolko takes us away from the confines of reality, explores human fragility in a transcendental way, and ends it all off with an empowering quality for people to reach their fullest potential. ‘Emerald Stones’ elegantly navigates the darker side of society touching on the darker side of human desires – an addiction with things, if you will. He shares that the song shares a “…fictitious story of a man who is entangled by the beauty of a dark spirit”, and we hear this clearly with the obscure sound. You can practically feel a palpable sense of gritty addiction in ‘Emerald Stones’.
