Robots In Love – Crush (2025)
From debaucherous dark-pop to luxurious alternative rock; passionate punk rock to exhilarating electronica, each sound and sensation is perfectly captured by rock band Robots In Love. We first came across the New Zealand-based group last year with the single ‘Unbreakable’, and we were hooked from the first second. Genre-bending, experimental, unconventional, eccentric and anything but pedestrian, Robots In Love hits you in the gut and slaps your cheek with every chord, and you’ll enjoy it. Come with us as we jump headfirst into their most recent release, ‘Crush’.
Following the well-received 2024 singles ‘The Sequel’ and ‘Unbreakable’, Elenor Rayner (vocals), Alex Burchell (drums), and Tony Lumsden (bass) stomp into 2025 with ‘Crush’. Demanding attention from the outset, ‘Crush’ is a brash traipsing through metal, alternative rock and hard rock with tinges of electronica tapping around the edges. Interestingly, while each element holds its own with bold individuality, the various layers join in a united musical masterpiece as each contributes to the overall harmonic symphony.
Finding the balance between mellifluousness and brash collision, listening to ‘Crush’ is like being set adrift on a sonic river, cutting through a calm, silvery surface but aware of the ever-present tumultuous swirls beneath. For me, however, it is the vocals that binds ‘Crush’ with a glittering bow. Woven into the soaring bass and pounding drums, Raynor slices across enhancing the gothic metal crash with a gentle, comforting rock vibe.
Melodically, the track is intriguing, but it is the message that offers profoundness and weight to ‘Crush’. Frontwoman Elenor Raynor explains:
“It’s about crushing away the negativity in your life. Nothing is higher than the walls you build around yourself, nothing is deeper than how far you imagine you are going to fall, nothing feels colder than the thought of being forgotten… the way we survive the darkness of these thoughts is by sharing them, and the strength you find together enables you to crush it away.”
In addition to the single, Robots In Love released an official music video for ‘Crush’. You can view the video below and on their YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
