Robin Shaw – Yours Sincerely (2023)

From Brazil to Mexico, France to Finland, Canada, the USA and the UK, singer-songwriter Robin Shaw is reaching audiences on a global scale. Described as “…emotional and splendid” (Tunepical), “…extraordinary” (Infomusic), and having “creative storytelling…” (Rising Music Blog), Shaw is impressing not only listeners but critics as well. Hailing from the UK, the pop artist lies somewhere between Ed Sheeran and James Bay with his intriguing sound. The latest addition to Shaw’s discography is the single ‘Yours Sincerely’.

Produced with long-time collaborator Chris Hall in West London, ‘Yours Sincerely’ is a heart-warming, charming and soft pop ballad. Simplistic and minimalist, Shaw adopts an acoustic sound in the single as his rich vocals meld elegantly with the piano. Unlike his previous release ‘Today’s Generation’, there are no bells or whistles included in a hip-hop flair, merely a basic melody oozing vulnerability. What I find interesting is how this simple arrangement is kaleidoscopically exploring human fragility with its intense intimacy. Moreover, while the track is sophisticatedly produced with a mature feel, there is a raw innocence slathered atop the melody reaching deep into your soul and leaving you breathless.

Noting his passion for storytelling, ‘Yours Sincerely’ sees Shaw taking a personal stance in an emotive manner. He explains that “this song is purely and simply a goodbye letter. It’s concise, simple and hopefully a good listen” – well, at least to me, it’s a superb listen. With grace and poetic elegance, Robin Shaw slithers in through your ears, rattles about your brain and leaves you chilled with his haunting warmth. Based on this sincere single I would never want to say goodbye to Shaw but keep him around forever.
