Through the tracks of his EP Hopeless Memories, Robbie Von took us through wistful, yet profound, reflections on loneliness and unfairness. He is now dipping into dreamy alternative realities in his surreal single ‘Timeline’. With a heavy dose of dream pop, the single explores how different you might be if some decisions in life had been made differently.
Using a heavy dose of surrealism in the lyrics, he brings a wealth of what-ifs to life and questions if you would be the same person if things had been done differently. While tapping into a parallel life, he uses angelic tones to bring the constant daydreaming of the main character to sonic life. The single continues Vonn’s ability to infuse a wealth of emotions into his music, while offering a brief moment of escapism from the world.
‘Timeline’ opens with a really light tone that draws you into dreamy clouds and the floating softness of daydreams. The melody is rich as the piano enters and has you relaxing into the soft, pink-hued colours of the synths. While the drum pushes you forward, the synths are so soft and inviting that you can’t help but sink into them. As the piano line dances between the clouds like rays of light, you will feel yourself swaying to the melody. This is the perfect musical arrangement to get you into the mood to sink into the dreamy considerations of the vocals. The dreaminess of the melody touches the edges of surreal, while never losing that soft floating feeling. It is an outstanding arrangement that uses dreamy synths to their maximum potential, while furthering the feeling of the single.
As you float on the delicate clouds of the melody, an angelic vocal line caresses your skin and turns your face toward the main vocal line. Vonn draws you into the consideration of what would happen if you made some decisions differently. There is a touch of melancholy as he touches on convincing yourself that every decision you made was the right one, only to slide into the thoughts of another life. It is a wonderful swirl of what-ifs that fills daydreams. His performance is quite addictive for its softness and you may just have his contemplations stuck in your head for a long time. The angelic vocal line that opened the track makes an appearance later on, surrounding the thoughts of the main character.
Robbie Vonn has you drifting into a daydream as he considers a life where decisions were made differently, in the delicate and soft tones of ‘Timeline’. Both the melody and vocals have this delicate softness that has you sinking into a soft cloud of contemplation. The dreamy vibes are rich, while the lyrics play a touch of melancholy against the surreal thoughts of an alternative life.
