Robbie Rapids – Mule Of Mine (2025)
A couple of years ago, we came across an extraordinarily talented musician named Robbie Rapids. He charmed us with his various shades of rock music, and from ‘Adolescent Lover’ to ‘In Our House’, we’ve proudly shared our reviews of Robbie Rapids. Today, the US-based singer-songwriter wiggles into our ears once more with his new single ‘Mule Of Mine’.
Following the well-received singles ‘Bad Habit’ and ‘Mystery Of Life’, Robbie Rapids releases his first Spaghetti Western country rock song, ‘Mule Of Mine’. Shifting from his signature classic rock, Robbie Rapids tips his hat at Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash; however, a melding of 90s folk-rock and alternative rock adds a daub of something that is entirely Robbie Rapids and no one else.
Recorded and produced by David Levene – who also plays the bass guitar, electric guitar and banjo in ‘Mule Of Mine’ – the new single oozes sophisticated arrangements, skilled production, and a pitch-perfect overall release. The swirl of Levene’s instruments with Robbie Rapids baritone guitar, drums, and simulated trumpet adds a grittier, rougher, made-for-Malpaso-type country rock. Interestingly, just as it is perfect for a 1960s Western, a 90s attitude clings to the song.
A tune about a mule who, with a cheeky wink and crooked smile, opts to skip work, play truant, head out into the world, and end up chilling in a country club. Penned with author Tony Tiffin, the track is a changing opinion of the farmer’s stubborn mule to an ultra-cool mule as he “adopts skipping work and relaxing on Fridays.”
Going on a bit of a Bonanza binge recently, my life is filled with tales of the Cartwrights, the Ponderosa, lots of saloon brawls, gun fights, and random facts about Little Joe (played by actor Michael Landon); a spaghetti western country-rock tune is perfect at the moment. If you’re into Westerns or not a fan at all, ‘Mule Of Mine’ is one of those tracks that stick in your head for hours, days or weeks. I highly recommend it to everyone eager for a smashing song! Enjoy y’all!
In addition to the single, Robbie Rapids released an official music video for ‘Mule Of Mine’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
