Robbie Boyd – Look Up (2022)

Compared to the iconic Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, UK-based Robbie Lloyd is bringing a unique slant to the world of contemporary folk. Featured on RGM, Sinusoidal Music, Find No Enemy and various other blogs, Boyd has hit the blogosphere running. Yet, this is not the only coverage he has received. Featured on ITV’s This Morning, BBC6 Music, BBC Radio 2, Xfm, iHeart Radio and Absolute Radio, he is sending his vibes out over the radio.

From his debut single ‘Hey Girl’ in 2017 to his most recent release ‘Look Up’, this naturally talented singer-songwriter has been captivating audiences across the globe. Gaining a reputation for engaging performances, Boyd has performed alongside Frank Turner and at popular music venues like the O2 Arena, Bush Hall, the Jazz Café and The Garage. We were first introduced to Robbie Boyd with his single ‘The Mighty Oak’ (read our review here), now we’re looking at his latest single ‘Look Up’.

Taken from his full-length album Time Will Tell, ‘Look Up’ is an eclectic arrangement of indie-folk with a pop edginess. Following the pop-inspired single ‘Whole Love’, ‘Look Up’ takes you on a journey through a folk-influenced swirl of sound. Reminiscent of Tom Odell, but with a deeper register, there is a contemporariness to the track. Combining steady drums, guitars and his smooth vocals, ‘Look Up’ has a laidback sound intermingled with intense intimacy.

Toe-tapping and infectious, ‘Look Up’ has a brutal honesty to it bringing a rawness to the track. Add Boyd’s rich tones and you have a moving, heartfelt indie-folk meets pop anthem. Profound and eclectic, the single captures Boyd’s depth and innovativeness as a singer-songwriter. Moreover, the combination of sincerity, genuineness, sentimentality and hopefulness makes ‘Look Up’ inspiring. I cannot wait to see what else Robbie Boyd has in store for 2022.
