Rob Eberle – hope u feel ok (2024)
With an uncanny ability to delve into the complexities of life and draw out mature reasonings behind tragic experiences, singer-songwriter Rob Eberle eloquently explores humanity in its rawest form. Using poetic lyricism and moving melodies, the US-based artist captures audiences not only on a national level but across the globe. The latest addition to his discography is the new single ‘hope u feel ok’.
Like stepping out of a film or a Jane Austen novel, ‘hope u feel ok’ explores the broken relationship when parents don’t exactly approve of pairing. Reflecting on the love torn apart by uncontrollable circumstances, Eberle uses poignant lyricism laying the raw emotion bare. Yet, while Romeo sat in a stubborn lovelorn state waiting for his Juliet, Eberle takes everything one moment at a time sharing both the hopeful and desperate sides of the coin. Sad and upset, we feel the pain; however, ‘hope u feel ok’ lilts with resilience, acceptance and the selfless thought of his Juliet being alright in the end.
Produced and co-written by Blake Stokes, ‘hope u feel ok’ retains the link of contemporary pop of ‘ILYM’ and ‘Half Of You’, yet a heavier rock-influenced tone emerges in the new track. A nostalgic whisper of 90s pop-rock tunes, crashing drums and soaring guitars meld with Eberle’s rich vocals. Toe-tapping and infectious in a jovial way getting you up and dancing, ‘hope you feel ok’ is perfect to twirl about to while singing into your hairbrush. Then again, just as it is fun and bright, melancholic lingering heartbreak seeps through in Eberle’s vulnerable vocals.
One aspect I find particularly interesting about Rob Eberle, especially in ‘hope u feel ok’, is his ability to contain light and dark themes in not only the song but his vocals. Like the dual narrative touching on acceptance and despair, Eberle’s voice appears to waiver with fragility while keeping a mature hopefulness in its rich, optimistic tone. It’s fascinating that you feel both content and awful in a single breath. Eberle has an upcoming EP, Collateral Damage, and I am eager to hear what it has to offer.
