River Toussaint – Put Down For Love (2025)
Most well-known as the powerhouse vocalist of soulful female-fronted group wht.rbbt.obj, River Toussaint grabs listeners by the heart to ensnare their senses – not literally, of course. Fusing the best of pop and RnB, with a fleck of hard-hitting soul, Toussaint creates a unique, kaleidoscopic, and eclectic soundscape where you can lose yourself. Join us as we jump headfirst into her most recent single, ‘Put Down For Love’.
Following the debut single, ‘Born In A Bad Way’, ‘Put Down For Love’ is the first release in two years – or at least according to Spotify. As with ‘Born In A Bad Way’, Toussaint’s velvety vocals take centre stage with sensual soulfulness oozing in the rich tones, but the melody seems to have veered slightly from previous works. Eerie, haunting, and a little creepy, ‘Put Down For Love’ breathes life into old-school jazz and blues with bold beats, soaring guitars, and pulsating drums. For me, however, it is the dynamic horns slicing into the melody that up the ante with enchanting flair.
A song that cannot be merely heard but must be experienced, ‘Put Down For Love’ seeps into your soul with its vibrancy. From the first chord, you find yourself set adrift on a dark sonic river – the ripples carrying you with a gentle, lulling rock. Staring out on the glistening waters, you see fairy-like twinkles fluttering with kaleidoscopic sheen; however, as calm, soothing and tender as the setting may be, there is a grittier, darker, more intimate intensity lingering along a hazy sonic fog.
“This song is about giving in completely – to love, to desire, to the kind of connection that leaves a mark. It’s seductive, a little dangerous, and completely immersive.” – River Toussaint on ‘Put Down For Love’
Sincere with a husky shiver sending tingles along your skin, ‘Put Down For Love’ is an exciting addition to my playlist – and it’s probably going to be stuck in my head for a while. I highly recommend River Toussaint and cannot wait for more.
