RISE – Here I Am (2024)
The saying goes that every cloud has a silver lining. From every storm, something amazing can arise. The phoenix that dies in a flame only to be born from the ashes. All hopeful concepts and RISE have such a hopeful optimism in their existence. We were introduced to the UK-based foursome earlier this year with the song ‘Without You’; and today we take a gander at another of their evocative singles, ‘Here I Am’.
Following the critically acclaimed EP Memories and Possibilities, ‘Here I Am’ is a further exploration of human nature by RISE. As part of the well-received EP, a tribute to the late musician Steve Kinley, ‘Without You’ tackled the intricate world of grief and “…the difficult theme of loss…”; however, ‘Here I Am’ flips the switch highlighting the light after a dark side of life. RISE explains that the track is “…a song about relationships, specifically the nature of long-term relationships and simply ‘being there’ to support each other as years roll by. It’s unashamedly upbeat in its outlook focusing on the positives of life.”
Recorded and produced at Liverpool’s Whitewood Studios by Rob Whiteley, ‘Here I Am’ is a nostalgic dip back to 90s alternative rock, but with a splash of 80s progressive rock shimmering in the tune. Existing in harmony, the single is a symphonic fusion of Brian Petch’s guitar, Sam Kinley’s bass, Alex Mahoney’s drums and psychedelic splashes of Paul Kinley’s keyboards. Yet, as the smooth harmony exists within ‘Here I Am’, the melody has a biting frenzy adding a chaotic haze with rock sensibilities. I find this particularly intriguing as it seems to encapsulate the confusion of life while expressing life’s positives in a mellifluous middle ground.
In addition to the single, RISE released an official lyric video for ‘Here I Am’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
