Ricky Rique – Use 2 Love You (2021)

Looking back on past relationships are not always a good thing particularly if they ended on bad terms. This is something that Rick Rique is doing in his single ‘Use 2 Love You’ which sees him looking back on a relationship that ended with abuse and arguing during brunch. While the rather infectious beat and dancing Latin vibes may have you thinking this is a lively single, the vocals and lyrics paint a different picture.

With the contrast of melody and lyrics, Rique creates a single that you can easily dance to while hitting out with a sad message. Drawing on influences including Drake, Ne-Yo, Rihanna and 112, he blends Latin pop with trap, hip-hop and RnB for a unique and captivating sound. While he brings the hurt of past relationships to listeners, there is a strength to be gained through the listening experience.

‘Use 2 Love You’ plucks into your ears with a distinct Latin vibe that gets your shoulders jiving to the sound. You can’t really help moving to the rhythm of the melody because the notes inject themselves into your muscles and start moving them. As you bop to the rhythm, you are filled with the heat of the movement that swelters with dancing vibes. It is a relatively minimalistic melody that has been used to great effect by Rique as you move to the sound while the vocals get the chance to shine across the beats. It is a perfect combination of Latin beats, hip-hop flows and heated RnB.

Dancing over the beats are Rique’s vocals that bring a heavier hit of hip-hop and RnB to the track. His vocals seem to pulse with smoothness as they bring the memories of a bad relationship to our ears. When the chorus hits, there is a melodic slide that slithers down your spine with its perfection. After this slide, he pushes out at the person he used to love before diving into the moment the relationship ended. Every word is as captivating as the last and you can’t stop listening to him. Through this track, Rique showcases an unfathomable ability to get you hooked to his sound while blending tones and emotions.

Ricky Rique has you swaying and bopping to his rhythm while diving into the sad memories of a bad relationship ending in ‘Use 2 Love You’. The melody is a perfect combination of tones and styles that have you dancing around while understanding that there is more going on. His vocals are so smooth as they slide into your ears and hook into your brain to pull you into the memories of the lyrics.
