Richard Tyler Epperson – Another Day (Unplugged) (2023)

Born into a musical family, Richard Tyler Epperson could go one of two ways when it came to making music. He either embraces it and fills his life with this passion, or he steps away and maybe plays an instrument or rather listens to others with a whimsical smile on his face. Epperson took all his love for music, hugged it close, and shared his moving compositions with the world. From his youth, US-based Epperson learned to play various instruments and tackled melodies with a strong DIY ethic; thus, it makes sense he has gained a reputation for honest, engaging, enthralling and evocative tunes.

Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, Richard Tyler Epperson is almost 10 years into his career and has turned heads across the globe, performed at notable venues and festivals, and was a chart-topper in Music Connect Magazine’s Top 25 Unsigned Artists of 2021. From his debut album Hourglass in 2014 to 2022’s ‘Living Within My Thoughts’ and ‘Sunrise’, Epperson elegantly captures the heart, soul and core of rough but mature music. Moreover, each single showcases an innovative evolution in sound as he flits between diverse genres with effortless ease. The latest addition to his discography is ‘Another Day (Unplugged)’.

One quality I love in unplugged singles is how the musicians have no place to hide. No fancy bells and whistles cover inconsistencies or a mis-plucked string; it is a bare-bones, stripped-back, lay it all on the floor explosion of music. Following his well-received album, A Wandering Mind, Epperson releases his new single ‘Another Day (Unplugged)’. Blending Epperson’s piano, acoustic guitar and bass with Nate Barnes’ drums and Joe Dennis singing backup vocals, ‘Another Day (Unplugged)’ is intimate, intense and captures the intricacies of human emotion within a simplistic soundscape.

Using a personal narrative of difficult situations, ‘Another Day (Unplugged)’ is like a diary entry by the musician. Epperson explains that “…it reflects how you can just take another day while being stuck in a bad place with depression and anxiety”. For me, each instrument seems to represent a certain emotion or thought – the piano being anxiety, the guitar being fear – and yet it all comes together in an empowering sonic tapestry. Epperson further shares, “…the song ends with how you fake/fight through these types of days for change at another day in hopes it will be better.”

In addition to the single, Richard Tyler Epperson released an official music video for ‘Another Day (Unplugged)’. You can view the video below or via Epperson’s YouTube channel.
