Revivialry – Two Sips (2024)
Defying youth’s limitations, Grimsby/Cleethorpes’ Revivalry has stormed onto the UK indie rock scene with a ferocity that belies their age. From sharing stages with seasoned veterans like Reverend & The Makers and The Reytons to making history as the youngest act on Kendal Calling’s main stage, their ascent into indie-rock stardom has been meteoric. Now, with their sophomore single ‘Two Sips’ they aim to solidify their status as a force to be reckoned with.
With a raw northern edge and youthful innocence comparable to Arctic Monkeys’ Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, Revivalry demonstrate a maturity beyond their years with their ability to craft a song that is both relatable and exhilarating. From first loves, first drinks and fist fights, ‘Two Sips’ is a visceral plunge into the sticky floors and messy emotions of a first teenage house party. As the protagonist stumbles through a haze of cheap beer and teenage angst, the track navigates the treacherous waters of growing up with a refreshing honesty.
Bursting forth with a tidal wave of punk-infused indie-rock guitars, ‘Two Sips’ relentless pace mirrors the frenetic energy of youth, rarely pausing for breath. This wall of unfiltered sound provides the perfect backdrop for the lead singer’s raw, Northern-tinged vocals, which deliver a gritty narrative.
The band explains, “It started with a riff, as it nearly always does. Ben brings that and everything follows from there. Because we are a 3 piece we use sonics around the bass instead of a rhythm guitar so Josh builds around the riff and Lewis sets the beat – the structure of the song tends to just build from here with all 3 of us in a room together. At times it can be painful, Ben is a perfectionist, Josh is keen to keep the flow of writing going and Lewis is pretty laid back – somewhere in the middle of that triangle is the sweet spot.”
As they continue to gain momentum, it’s clear that Revivalry is poised to become one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the UK in recent years. Their upcoming project promises to be a thrilling journey into the heart of youthful rebellion, and fans eagerly await what these teenage trailblazers will deliver next.
