Repeat – Not Enough (2024)

In our interview with frontman Torbjörn Hallberg, Swedish trio Repeat formed “during the pandemic when me and Johan met regularly to try out new material and in 2022, we came to a point when it felt like it was something we wanted to take further. We had played with a few different bass players but finally contacted Mattias and then the last piece of the puzzle fell into place.” Having known each other since their teens, the lads had a strong bond to tie Repeat together and, while Repeat only blasted onto the scene last year, there is a world of music experience and knowledge wrapped in the melting pot of inspiration.

Following their well-received self-titled debut album, the “stoner rock, punk band” enter 2024 with the highly charged punk single ‘Not Enough’. Recorded at Malmö’s Studio Sickan with producer Joakim Lindberg, and mastered at Redmount Studios by Magnus Lindberg, ‘Not Enough’ is a hit in the chest knocking you to your feet but you come up for me. Fuelled by Johan Holmberg’s crashing drums, Hallberg’s scorching guitar and Mattias Belin’s searing bass, Repeat has created a tune ideal for the mosh pit. While chaos exudes from the less-than-two-minute single distorted by a layer of guitar crammed against the bass and kicked by the drums, a sense of harmony exists within the madness.

Taking a quick listen to Repeat, the trio capture the harshness of punk and stoner rock in songs like ‘Repeat’, ‘Harder’ and ‘Out Of Control’, and this continues in ‘Not Enough’. Repeat share that “…most of the album was recorded in live takes” and this is certainly heard as stark brashness oozes forth from an elegant production.

The first song from their upcoming album Rat Race (to be released later in the year), ‘Not Enough’ is a bold statement demanding attention. If this is the precursor to Rat Race, I cannot wait to hear what else Repeat has in store.

In addition to the single, Repeat released an official music video for ‘Not Enough’. This video can be viewed below or on their YouTube channel.
