Regent – Liberation (2023)

Regent is an indie rock band from Southampton with members Ben Rooke (vocals), Chris Woolf (lead guitar, keys, piano), Luke Trundell (bass guitar) and George Grattan (drums). Having attracted praise from numerous radio stations and blogs, such as Louder Than War, Earmilk, Radio X, Absolute Radio, Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing, Regent is a band set for stardom; keep your eyes on them. After ending 2023 with a busy summer of live shows, including a support slot with Reverend & The Makers, and an appearance at Minehead’s Shine On Weekender, this intriguing UK-based indie-rock band are off to a great start. A snip of influences that can be heard in their music are The Beatles, The Doors and Oasis. You can definitely hear The Doors throughout their first album Just A Revolution and in the new single ‘Liberation’.

Having recently released the critically acclaimed album Just A Revolution, Regent has kept the momentum with the song ‘Liberation’, and their second album Beggars Belief is set for release in Spring 2024. Overall, ‘Liberation’ is a good song; I am not a fan of the twangy ear-piercing guitar riffs of the song though. Once it got into its rhythm, the single became enjoyable. I really enjoy the accompanying music video as it captures the core of ‘Liberation’ in a mishmash of sounds and images. Speaking about the single, vocalist Ben Rooke said:

“‘Liberation” is about freeing yourself and your mind from everything that goes on in this world. Sometimes life can make you feel like a prisoner, but we can all be our own revolution and be free…”

I must admit, I do prefer their previous album and especially the track ‘Diry Little Sinner‘ which is fantastic. That being said, I am excited about the rest of Beggars Belief and would definitely enjoy seeing them live.
