reanne – this body (2025)
Using music as an escape from the challenging world around her, singer-songwriter reanne connects with audiences on an intimate, intense and comforting level with her melodies. Marienne Felisilda (also known as reanne) “stumbled upon songwriting at 14 when she and a few friends won a local band competition…”; skip ahead a few years and Felisilda has collaborated with numerous artists, like Big Spoon and Matt Chow, is featured far beyond her Hong Kong borders, and has a cross-continental following. The latest addition to reanne’s discography is the single ‘this body’.
Following her well-received 2024 singles ‘halation’ and ‘Yellow (The Blue Version)’, reanne continues to shine brightly with her eclectic musical style in ‘this body’. Known for her blending of different variations of soul and pop, ‘this body’ glimmers with hits of RnB, neo-soul and pop in the melody. Produced with Matthew Chow, the single brims with synths, guitar and bold beats pulsating in the background.
I find ‘this body’ an incredibly appealing track, not merely for the sweep of warm sounds wriggling into my ears, but for the experience. Soft and smooth like a calm sonic river, yet filled with “twirl around until you can’t feel the ground” vibrancy, reanne finds the line between chilled-out laidback and stirring joviality.
Nostalgic with a nod to 90s pop and RnB, but with the edginess of a modern-day pop song, ‘this body’ captures yesteryear in 2025. Moreover, the weightiness of ‘this body’ breaks with the song’s timeless theme of self-worth, self-doubt, and body image. Reanne explains:
“I wanted to create a fun, gentle reminder that would resonate with people and lift up those who often struggle with the internal turmoil in their relationship with their body… It’s more than just a song; it’s about acknowledging that we’re doing our best in this ongoing journey of accepting our body as we get older.”
In addition to the single, reanne released an official music video for ‘this body’. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses effects that can trigger migraines and/or seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
