Ralphy – Disco Sally (2023)
For almost a decade, well give or take, singer-songwriter Ralphy has enthralled audiences with her energetic performances, heart-pounding melodies, and alluring vocals. Hailing from Australia, Ralphy’s musical passion might lean toward the pop side of things but are entirely diverse in the overall flavour. From sensual RnB to fierce indie-pop and ambient new wave, her bangers slither into your ear and stay there in their infectious glory. Ralphy has crossed our virtual desk once before with her 2022 single ‘WANTED’, and she turns our heads once again with her latest offering, ‘Disco Sally’.
Recorded and produced by innovative producer Sam J. Garfield, Ralphy captures the core of disco music from bold beats to sensual vocals and a swirl of pop-flavoured insanity. Interestingly, while the lighter flutter of upbeat disco lifts the melody, a darker presence lurks beneath giving off a huskier, heavier, skin-chilling tone; all wrapped up in a danceable disco tune, of course.
Like her previous single ‘WANTED’, Ralphy brings a soul-stirring grittiness to ‘Disco Sally’ in the sassy hushed vocals. In ‘Disco Sally’, it is as if she peaks up from beneath a mind-melting melody with a sassy allure calling you closer to entrance, enchant and entrap your soul in the husky veil. While ‘Disco Sally’ has an upbeat character, it is Ralphy’s decadent voice that adds the special something to make your skin tingle and soul soar.
Penned in collaboration with creative partner Matthieu McReina, the single “draws back the curtain back on a rare, wonderful scene where people of all kinds can be fun, sexy, wild and free”. Twirling about in a kaleidoscopic haze, Garfield and Ralphy find the balance between cheerful brightness, seductive darkness, and intoxicating ferocity. For me, Ralphy has found the theme song for decadence, sensuality and sexiness with a cheeky wink and lick of her lips.
