Queen Bitch – Peaceful Feeling (2024)

The band might be named Queen Bitch, but this group is anything but a bitch, both female hound and otherwise. They might be a queen though expertly exploring humanity with ease, elegance and a resounding state of acceptance. Hailing from Ireland, Queen Bitch is a rather new group having formed in 2023; however, despite the youth of the foursome, they have a stirring, sophisticated, cohesive sound making one believe Queen Bitch has been around for years. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Peaceful Feeling’.

Following the single ‘The Last Time’, Queen Bitch hands us another dose of their eclectic grunge meets rock meets blues style. Recorded and produced at Beardfire Studios with Rohan Healy, Al Quiff and David Virgin, ‘Peaceful Feeling’ seemingly leans further toward a grunge tone in an obscure tribute to 90s artists Radiohead and The Cranberries. Yet, while this comparison might be mentioned, Queen Bitch is developing a signature sound pushing the borders of rock music.

While a grittier distortion exists between Róisín Bohan’s vocals, Matt Brennan’s bold bass, and Al Quiff’s drums, ‘Peaceful Feeling’ oozes a soft, sincere calm putting you at ease but keeping gruffness in the melody. Classic rock ala 70s bursts forth from Rohan Healy’s guitar with hints of blues-rock clinging to the edges. Some might consider this merely another song from a rock band, so there you go…enjoy. However, profoundness lingers as ‘Peaceful Feeling’ draws together poignant themes and explores them through the music.

Not necessarily a tumultuous melody with its calm, gentle tenderness, the single is peaceful from the outset. Yet, simplicity is often more expressive than any bells and whistles. Haunting but gentle, confident but subdued, hopeful but tragic, ‘Peaceful Feeling’ is an intimate track travelling from life’s dark periods to the light at the end of the tunnel. My one complaint about ‘Peaceful Feeling’ is that even with it being six minutes long, it feels as if it ends too quickly. A brief breath of infectious music from this up-and-coming, highly recommended group.
