Quarry – Micro Plastic People (2020)

Vittorio Tolomeo is the singer-songwriter behind Quarry. He is a tireless musical explorer who has played across Europe in bands and on his own. His new single ‘Micro Plastic People’ follows on from his critically acclaimed album Super Arcade which includes the track ‘Precious Stone’.

His new single was inspired by a documentary film of the same name which aired on Italian TV. The song details the microplastic pollution inundating the world using Quarry’s iconic tone. Unique techniques were used to create the track including vocals filtered through half-cut plastic bottles and plastic percussion.

‘Micro Plastic People’ hooks you with an opening that is choral in tone. There is a great harmonisation at the start that turns into Tolomeo’s engaging vocals. The choral tone shifts to an indie-rock beat that is ridiculously engaging and fun to listen to. The melody of the track has a groovy note to it that really gets you involved in the song.

As you are engaged with the melody, the vocals and lyrics flow over you like microplastic infested water. The verses of the track are cynical and have a bitter edge to them. The chorus of the track is simple but will have you singing along in no time.

Quarry screams against the microplastic particles we drink, eat and breathe every day in ‘Micro Plastic People’. The song uses a fun melody with bitter lyrics to get the message across.
