Proklaim – CELEBRATE (2025)

Brimming with hope, life and joyfulness wrapped in a sonic hip-hop-infused sound, Proklaim spreads happiness on an international scale with his moving music. Yet, as much as there is a toe-tapping beat, the infectious positivity is weighed by profound introspection; so, it’s not just a pretty sound, but something deeper beneath the surface. We’ve followed the Namibian rapper for a while, and we’re thrilled to listen to his latest single, ‘CELEBRATE’.

Following his well-received singles ‘LOVE LAVIDA’ and ‘Bitter Sweet’, ‘CELEBRATE’ showcases another side to Proklaim’s multi-faced artistry, adopting a strong soul style. Unlike previous material, Proklaim has always presented vintage rap woven in a hip-hop-influenced tone; however, ‘CELEBRATE’ immerses the typical rap in old-school soul – particularly with the female backing vocals in its sensual, smile-inducing, “check me out ‘cos I got it going on” whispers.

As I mentioned, Proklaim embodies hopeful ’90s rap, so that is what I expected from his new single. Yes, his Tupac meets Snoop Dogg sound runs through the track, but this song brings far more to the table than ‘JITTER’ or ‘LOVE LAVIDA’. Rather easy on the ears, Proklaim’s rap is simultaneously brash and smooth, making his melodies tranquil but abrupt. ‘CELEBRATE’ embraces this style, yet the urgency often felt in his rich execution disappears within the melody

Inspired by a deep desire to combine Afrobeat with rap, ‘CELEBRATE’ embodies old-school hip-hop, but Western African sounds cling to the song, almost rearing its head alongside the soulful backing vocals. For me, it’s a mellifluous obscurity oozing in a languid tranquillity, bringing every element – including each genre – together with harmonic ease.

Rather different from previous work, is this a pivotal evolution of Proklaim, or rather just a one-off taster of something new? It remains to be seen, and I’m eager to find out.

In addition to the single, Proklaim released an official lyric video for ‘CELEBRATE’. You can view the video below and/or on Proklaim’s YouTube channel.
