proFESSional – Pizza For Breakfast (2024)
Cesar A. Cruz once said, “Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable” – one of my favourite quotes and one that perfectly captures the raw attitude of proFESSional. Blending various hints of rock from classic rock to punk, alternative rock and indie-rock, the UK-based fivesome offers a timeless hard-hitting sound set to blow your mind (not literally of course). With their energetic, enthusiastic, high-voltage live shows, proFESSional is quickly gaining a reputation for intoxicating performances. With sold-out shows at notable venues like The Dublin Castle and the Troubadour, the group is quickly gaining a local following; however, their powerful music is sure to reach far beyond their UK borders quickly.
Even before I hit the play button for proFESSional’s debut single ‘Pizza For Breakfast’, I was eager to hear the exciting sound so eloquently described in their press release. To hear art created inspired by the madness of a chaotic world. To find something flitting along the lines of rambunctious rage that is not reflective of political chaos… and proFESSional did not let me down. Alright, it wasn’t hit-in-the-face insanity from the first chord but somehow the lift to craziness is far more exciting than a sudden crush of sound.
Breathing life into old-school 90s/2000s hard rock with rushes of classic rock lingering beneath, as well as a contemporary lilt prepared for modern-day audiences, proFESSional is truly timeless. The perfect song for a mosh-pit, Jonny Brister’s pounding drums back the soaring guitars of Rob Hennebry and Paul Fifield, while Marco Gaspari’s bass boldly keeps time. Interestingly, while the melody has a sense of harmony with each instrument playing its part, there is also individuality demanding attention to every aspect of the track. For me, however, it is Mani’s vocals that bring extra intricacy to ‘Pizza For Breakfast’ with bold confidence lingering in the subdued hush.
In addition to the single, proFESSional released an official music video for their single. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
