Priz Em – First Kiss (2023)

While she might hail from the world of fantasy, Priz Em can evoke real, raw emotions with her moving music. Holographic figures of individuals are not a new feat, but the sassy, saucy and sensual Priz Em is “the centrepiece of a new era in creating an artist”. Created in the Mega Centarri universe, the graphic novel diva leaps into digital reality; however, while she might be a product of technology, her style and charm are as “human” as you or I. Come with us as we delve into Priz Em’s discography – the first from a digital diva, at least for me.

Perfected as a design from thought to actuality, Priz Em owes her existence to the masterful skills of Canada-based developers Steve Smith and Anthony Anderson of SA TrackWorks. Her moves and grooves with a Christina Aguilera meets Lzzy Hale fierceness is down to developers, but her soul-stirring vocals are all performed by Kat.

From her 2018 debut single ‘Burning Bridges’ to the most recent release ‘Way Back Home’, Priz Em has grown in style and substance. Following her 2020 single ‘Heartless’, ‘First Kiss’ is Priz Em’s first release in two years. While her songs retain a sense of being the theme song for a Marvel fantasy/sci-fi film, ‘First Kiss’ has a heavier sense of vulnerability with greater versatility in the melody. It seems strange to say that a digital musician can show evolution but, for some odd reason, Priz Em and her crew have a more sophisticated presence in ‘First Kiss’.

Leaning strongly toward the vintage classic rock sound, the bold bass and drums carry the tune. A crescendo of lead guitar bursts forth with a taste for infectious riffs and mind-numbing ferocity. Interestingly, while the crashing drums and intoxicating guitars can hypnotise you, Priz Em’s vocals are the “wow factor”. Rugged and brash but with a flowing quality, she is a perfect rock goddess transcending time, space and reality. I find it intriguing that there is a slight folk-rock hook sliding along her voice, but then it melds into the thread of hard rock.

In addition to the single, Priz Em has released a music video for ‘First Kiss’. You can view it below or on her YouTube channel.
