President Street – Heal (2022)
Described as a form of pop fusion, Australian duo President Street blends elements of pop, RnB and soul. Brought together through advertisements in local music shops, Pete and Ruby found their musical soulmates in one of the more obscure ways. Coming from different backgrounds, their music has diversity based on their individual perspectives – and it seems to be loved by the masses. Featured on Voice Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, Rising Artists Music Blog, Angry Baby and various playlists/radio stations, President Street is an international force of nature.
With extensive touring, President Street has built a reputation for enthusiastic and energetic performances. Yet, this enthusiasm is not exclusive to live sets but can be heard in all of their music. ‘Heal’ comes off the back of their well-received EP Heartbreak Prayer where they were dubbed as the ones to watch by music curators. In ‘Heal’ they prove they are definitely shining gems in a sea of musical pebbles.
Produced by the iconic John Reynolds who has worked with Damien Rice and Sinead O’Conner, ‘Heal’ touches on aspects of hurt, regret and the pain of loss. Described as a “mournful song”, the track has a smooth, slow and slightly melancholic melody. Yet, the RnB-inspired song has a sense of empowerment in the melodic arrangement. Ruby’s soulful vocals carry both the despair of losing something but also the optimism of healing her condition.
“It’s about accepting that for whatever reason our souls chose the families and relationships we have in order to learn and move forward in our evolution and consciousness. Pain is unpleasant. So, as humans, we tend to want to avoid it, but the source of our pain can, at times, hold our greatest gifts if we have the courage to face it and lay ourselves bare to healing deeply and thoroughly from it.” – President Street on ‘Heal’
Moving, sentimental and intensely intimate with a brutally honest narrative, ‘Heal’ is a pleasant sonic swirl that can send your soul soaring. I cannot wait for their upcoming mini album to be released later this year.
