Post Rome – The Idea Of Having A Boyfriend (2020)

With the power of Hoobastank, the intimacy of 30 Seconds To Mars and the buoyancy of Fall Out Boy, Post Rome is a genre-defying pot of rock awesomeness. Hailing from the UK, the Sunderland-based trio is a hard act to beat, even by more established acts. Embracing modern hard rock with some indie-rock undertones, Jasper Watson (vocals and bass), Ben Goodfellow (guitar) and Jamie Martin (drums) show originality, authenticity and enthusiasm for music. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘The Idea Of Having A Boyfriend’.

The follow up to their critically acclaimed singles ‘Different Kids’ and ‘Want To Believe’, ‘The Idea Of Having A Boyfriend’ builds on their reputation for insightful lyrics over emotive melodies. Touching on issues of relationships, romance, frustration and obsession with narrative lyrical style, Post Rome showcase their ability to engage with listeners on a deeper level. Yet, while there seems a degree of depth and poignancy to the single, the lads insist you should not take things too seriously or over-analyse things.

“This is a song that does what it says of the tin. ‘The Idea Of Having A Boyfriend’ explores the feelings of people who simply just like having a partner rather than liking the person themselves…it’s simply a text message turned into a catchy hook.” – Jamie Martin on ‘The Idea Of Having A Boyfriend’

Using pounding drums, dynamic guitars and powerful vocals, Post Rome effortlessly create a soundscape for the average 21st-century listener. Laidback and easy to listen to, ‘The Idea Of Having A Boyfriend’ has a melodious tune enhanced merely by Watson’s robust vocals. I can use a lot of adjectives to describe this tune, but the fact of the matter is Post Rome have a sincere, unique and beguiling sound whatever they do. ‘The Idea Of Having A Boyfriend’ is just another link in their awesome chain to stardom.
