POLI NIKA – Nothing Belongs To Us (2025)

Last year we came across a refreshing new singer-songwriter whose dreamy melodies, profound lyrics, and tender intimacy enrich your soul with a folk-inspired sound. The singer is Portugal-based POLI NIKA, and that particular introduction was the single ‘Down To Earth’. Her confident performances, heart-warming tunes, and relatable poetry are not only capturing audiences at live gigs but turning heads on an international scale. Join us as we delve into her most recent release, ‘Nothing Belongs To Us’.

Recorded and produced with Simon Eugene, ‘Nothing Belongs To Us’ is a glittering blend of indie-pop with folk-pop lingering throughout the kaleidoscopic melody. Soft, soothing, gentle and tranquil, a powerful piano drives the ballad, but don’t disregard the guitar, percussion or drums. Woven together like a multi-coloured sonic tapestry, each element brings passion and sophisticated charm in a delicate, harmonic symphony. For me, however, it is POLI NIKA’s rich, warm vocals that enhance the intimacy of the track.

Embracing you with a great big hug, POLI NIKA sounds like an old friend sharing some heartfelt truths over a cup of hot chocolate – a moment when everything in the world is right. Lyrically, this sentiment is beautifully expressed with ‘Nothing Belongs To Us’ delving into the complexities of love. Penned about finding true love, celebrating true love and enjoying its existence in an uncertain, transient world, the single is profound but simultaneously wistful. POLI NIKA explains:

“This song came together like a collage of moments. I actually found some of the lyrics in my partner’s social media posts and mixed them together with my own feelings. It’s really about choosing to share your life with someone who truly sees you.”

For a particular treat, why not view POLI NIKA’s live session of ‘Nothing Belongs To Us’. Filmed at Timbuktu Studio, Lisbon in 2024, the video showcases pure passion, intimacy and tenderness. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel.
