Plasma Chasms – Interstellar Baby (2024)
Barely able to catch our breath after our last brush with Plasma Chasms a couple of weeks ago, the psychedelic duo return with their powerful music. Rather new to the transcontinental pair, ‘Solaris’ was our introduction and we are rather late to the party as Australian Jane Drewett and American Adrian Guerrero already have an adoring international following. Founded in 2020 following Adrian’s hiatus from songwriting, the dynamic duo take everyone on a psychedelic journey with songs like ‘Empty Spaces’, ‘Sandman’ and ‘Solaris’. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Interstellar Baby’.
Following the critically acclaimed singles ‘Solaris’ and ‘Psychedelic Carousel’, ‘Interstellar Baby’ is the third track off their upcoming album Chrysalis – an album exploring humanity but with a lilt toward positivity, optimism, acceptance, understanding and complete unabashed joy instead of the gritty grunge of life. Described as “a cosmic elevator taking an existential look into reality”, each track or floor presents something new and exciting. ‘Psychedelic Carousel’ tilted toward heavier psychedelic rock, while ‘Solaris’ was a breath of disco-influenced synth-pop, but ‘Interstellar Baby’ shifts to vintage funk.
Immediately dragging me back to the days of Earth, Wind and Fire, I found a comfortable space in the old-school funk sound of ‘Interstellar Baby’. Laidback, chilled out, and filled with warm vibes, listening to this track is like finding yourself reclining in a mass of fluffy cushions with your favourite cocktail in your hand. You know, those big almost beanbag-like plush pillows that anyone will enjoy, and potentially fall asleep in.
Flooded with bold drums, a powerful guitar, some percussion and smile-inducing horns, the melody brushes utter calm and relaxation through your hair. Perfectly aligned with this pleasant tune, Plasma Chasms thread the theme of blissful joy. The band explain:
“The song came about to catch a vibe in enjoying summer Fridays, the day that you can go out for dinner and dancing under the stars with your love. Being in a moment of bliss where time stands still…”
