Plasma Chasms – Already Waiting (2024)
Pushing the boundaries of conventionalism, Plasma Chasms are anything but pedestrian in their sound, themes and intricately interwoven emotion. Inspired by humanity in all its beautiful brightness and gritty pain, the pair reflect on “being young, carefree, fun and when that reverses watching the cycle of time repeat in the echoes of individuals…” Staying true to this reflection on the passage of time, Plasma Chasms’ upcoming debut album Chrysalis acts as a sonic space elevator with each track (or “floor”) capturing different experiences in life. Join us as the concierge takes us to the fourth floor with ‘Already Waiting’.
Following their well-received singles ‘Psychedelic Carousel’, ‘Solaris’ and ‘Interstellar Baby’, ‘Already Waiting’ retains Plasma Chasms distinctive brand of synth-pop; however, as with ‘Interstellar Baby’ a hint of funk flutters through the mellifluous melody. A concoction of dreamy keyboard, wistful guitars and calming synths, ‘Already Waiting’ is a comfortable step into a calm, relaxing, breath-taking sonic forest. Bright fairies twinkle about with charming colours, and you feel a sense of happiness as the rush of jovial optimism engulfs you. Yet, while all the stress pours from your fingers, a lingering touch of vulnerability trickles from the misty vocals.
Delving into the complexities of love, Plasma Chasms tackles the confusing topic of unrequited love and yearning from every angle. The duo explains:
“’Already Waiting’ is capturing the moments when you’re in love and you just want to shout it from the rooftops, and then we get these little moments where we connect with the person and our words fail, we feel our vulnerability. We spend all this time dreaming of these moments in our head and then they catch us unprepared, and we are too scared to speak out loud for fear we might lose what we have… It tells a story of unrequited love and misunderstanding. It asks the question, what if the love you thought was never reciprocated actually was? Nothing is ever as it seems…”
