Pink Jagg – Charlie’s Angels (2024)

Tackling human emotion and its essence with a hard-hitting beat, US-based Pink Jagg navigates reality in its grit, glory and grandeur. The brainchild of brothers Austin and Jagger Spacy, Pink Jagg might be looked at as a rap duo; however, this is hardly the case. Bound in a rap-filled musical wrapper, the lads concoct a boundary-breaking unique style with emo-rap, bossa nova, reggae and even bolero… and that’s just naming a few styles. Despite being on the scene since 2022 with their single ‘DONTFEELBADFORME, Pt. 1’, this is our introduction to Pink Jagg. Some come with us as we dive headfirst into their new track, ‘Charlie’s Angels’.

Upon reading the title of this song, ‘Charlie’s Angels’, I was rushed back to the remake of the iconic film Charlie’s Angels with Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell. No need for that nostalgia because, well, Pink Jagg’s ‘Charlie’s Angels’ is quite different, although the female protagonist remains part of the powerful plot. Pink Jagg explains:

“’Charlie’s Angels is about me realising that my girl was cheating on me the whole time. She came home late one night, and her hair was all messed up and her purse was all opening. It was evident – “must have been on a mission”…”

Following the well-received single ‘BIG DEAL’, ‘Charlie’s Angels’ shifts from a harder hip-hop beat to slower, more soothing rap with tinges of RnB flecked in the background. Breathing life into the rap sounds of the 90s and 2000s, Pink Jagg insert old-school charm into ‘Charlie’s Angels’; however, a modern-day edginess makes the song vintage and contemporary.

Produced by Austin Spacey with Domino and amx, the new track is sophisticated but raw in its arrangement. The painfulness of the theme is found in brash beats, yet a mellifluous vibe adds a more laidback tone to ‘Charlie’s Angels’. For me, it is the quick sax at the end adding some sassiness to the song. Moreover, the emotional maturity of Jagger’s vocals captures vulnerability and despair with slight angst and frustration.
