Pierce Braedon – Her. (2021)

From Sinusoidal Music to iHeart Radio, singer-songwriter Pierce Braedon is reaching audiences far beyond his North American borders. Described as a “compelling indie-pop singer-songwriter…” (Sinusoidal Music), “…a heart-stopper for the soul” (Unseen Plays) and a “unique blend of ambient synths and alt-pop style” (Indie Music Flix), Braedon is building a reputation for charm, elegance and engaging music. Come with us as we dip our toes into his discography with his debut single ‘Her.’

The first release from US-based Braedon, ‘Her.’ is an emotional swirl of sound capturing your soul from the first beat. Lying somewhere between Nirvana, Post Malone and Ed Sheeran, Braedon flecks a pop-inspired tenderness in the ballad; however, the unconcerned attitude of Kurt Cobain brings another dimension to the song. Interestingly enough, while Cobain showed a dismissive attitude, Nirvana’s music was packed to the hilt with turmoil, angst, sensitivity and sentimentality – as is Pierce Braedon. Dismissive but a tumultuous wave of emotion hidden beneath the melody.

Combining his upbringing on 80s rock with the pop sentiments of modern-day artists, ‘Her.’ finds the line between gruff grittiness and an elegant ethereal ambience. Recorded, performed and produced by Braedon in his home studio, the single has an authentic rawness about it. Yet, simultaneously, sophistication seeps from the soul-stirring single. Moreover, while a grittiness envelopes the track with a melancholic tone, ‘Her.’ is not a mire of misery at all. Instead, the song is a fusion of “shimmering, ambient and groovy pop-rock hooks…’Her.’ concocts a whirl of emotion…that connects a sentiment of hopeful loneliness” with a bittersweet bite.
