People On TV – Stand (2022)

If you are looking for a get ready anthem or the track you can blare on a Sunday to shake things up, you are in the right place. This is exactly what People On TV have to offer with the follow-up to their debut ‘Stand’. Using a hypnotic yet driving beat, they send you careening into the guitars of the melody.

While this is only their second single, Dave Gilbert, Steve Swart and Oliver Fawcett are no newcomers to the music scene. They share a rich history of radio rotation from the 2000s and opened for great acts including The Strokes and Radiohead. Now, they are bringing a new life to their sound as they get you grooving and rocking out to their catchy indie rock flow.

‘Stand’ rises through the opening and runs into the driving beats. There is an expansive feeling to the guitars as they jangle over the beat reaching out toward the horizon. While the expansive feeling of the opening becomes a little constrained, the driving beat continues to march down the melody. There is the lightest retro touch to the melody that shimmers with a shoegaze vibe. Every element of the melody comes together for a really captivating flow that has you riding the current down the single. You can easily see yourself turning up the music as you drive down an open road or blaring the single as you get ready for the day. The music is packed with energy that shakes the cobwebs out of your brain and fills your muscles with a moving.

While you march down the melody to the beat of the music, the vocals bring an extra hint of vintage tones to the track. There is an old-school edge to the vocals as they shimmer over the melody and mist over your senses. As they glide across your skin, the vocals dive into a tale of infatuation and the questioning of why the person you share a connection with doesn’t seem to be as into everything as you are. There is something hypnotic about the flow of the vocals through the lyrics that keeps you hooked. This is particularly heavy on the chorus that is really catchy and has you singing along in no time.

People On TV drive a hypnotic flow into your veins through the marching beats and airy vocals of ‘Stand’. The melody makes you want to turn the volume up and blare the track as you get ready or need to shift the cobwebs from your brain. The vocals have a retro touch as they pull you under their mesmerising spell.
