Pearl Diver – Heaven Help Me (2022)

Described by Crack Magazine as “…simple classic songwriting that takes in woozy folk, fractured blues and battered Americana”, UK trio Pearl Diver are impressing with their eclectic sound. Beginning as a solo venture for frontman Matt Sage, Pearl Diver was intended to be a one-man show; however, recruiting Josh Rigal (bass) and Joel Bassuk (drums) made it so much more. Featured on Send Me Your Ears, Sinusoidal Music, Rising Artists Music Blog and Less Than 1000 Followers, Pearl Diver is turning the heads of various critics – and not to mention listeners. The latest addition to their repertoire is ‘Heaven Help Me’.

Following their tracks ‘You Can Bring Your Darkness’ and ‘Give It All Away’, Sage and his crew unleash another beauty in ‘Heaven Help Me’. The third track from their upcoming debut album (to be released later this year), the track has an upbeat, toe-tapping and intriguing sound. From the first second, you are shot into a sonic whirlpool with pinpricks of kaleidoscopic light swirling before your eyes. An almost manic beat drives the dynamic guitars and pounding drums; however, while there is a frenzied tinge it dwells within a smooth, soothing melody.

My favourite element of this track is its combination of laidback power pop, indie rock and classic rock taking me back to the sounds of the 80s. The psychedelic harmonies also add an old-school nostalgia, but Pearl Diver bring a certain contemporary edge to the song. Soul-stirring, ‘Heaven Help Me’ has a psychedelic charm to it bringing groovy vibes with a wistful sentimentality.

In addition to the track, Pearl Diver released an official music video for ‘Heaven Help Me’. Simplistic and minimalist it features the band performing, but the psychedelic waves are present with obscure angles and lighting effects. As such, the effects can trigger seizures or migraines for people with photosensitive conditions. You can view the video below or on Pearl Diver’s YouTube channel.
