Paul Byrne – FUH (I Can’t Stop Falling) (2022)
Most well-known as the founding member, drummer and songwriter for the highly successful rock band In Tua Nua, Paul Byrne began making waves in the music industry over 30 years ago. As part of In Tua Nua, Byrne has opened for iconic acts like Bob Dylan, Simple Minds, U2, Fleetwood Mac and many more. Since then, this talented musician has continued performing and collaborating with musicians across the globe. In fact, he is in the new Sinead O’Connor documentary Nothing Compares as he was the one who first spotted O’Connor’s talent.
Beginning his solo career in 2014, Paul Byrne released his debut album Cruel & Tender Ways which included the popular single ‘I’ve Got You’. Almost a decade later, Byrne releases a new single entitled ‘FUH (I Can’t Stop Falling)’ to critical acclaim. Written, recorded and self-produced in his home studio in Howth, County Dublin, Byrne blends elements of blues, classic rock and pop-rock in the new single.
Working with his long-time collaborator Conor O’Farrell Brady, ‘FUH (I Can’t Stop Falling)’ is a retro rock masterpiece. A hard-hitting single, pounding drums effortlessly meld with dynamic guitars; however, it is the guitar solo that sends that spike of adrenaline through your veins. Interestingly enough, while there is flowing fusion of the instrumentation, the prominence of each instrument remains making you pay attention to the full force of the guitar and drums. Add Byrne’s rich vocals atop that and you have a rock song made for the masses.
The melody of ‘FUH (I Can’t Stop Falling)’ is hard-hitting and bold, but it is the alignment of the insatiable guitar-driven track and its intimate lyricism that highlights Byrne’s depth as an artist.
“We all have that friend who falls for totally the wrong person who is either mean to them or plain doesn’t like them, and even though everyone else can see it themselves cannot. Their obsession or lust blinds them so that they just keep taking crap in the certainty that things will turn around. My protagonist takes it a step further and keeps repeating the same mistake again and again. Maybe they like being mistreated. Who knows? It’s just a song.” – Paul Byrne on ‘FUH (I Can’t Stop Falling)’
