Patricio Anabalón – Mitad de la Luna Roja (2024)

With a reputation for weaving insightful poetic lyricism into heartfelt, infectious melodies, singer-songwriter Patricio Anabalón is an established artist with an eclectic flair. From his critically acclaimed releases to his lectures at South American universities to his extensive international touring, and even being invited by the President of the Republic of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, to join the 2009 presidential delegation to Honduras and Cuba, Anabalón demands attention among political figures and the average guy sitting at his computer. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Mitad de la Luna Roja’.

With over twenty years in the music industry, various acclaimed releases, and a list of collaborations and performances leaving you agape, Anabalón has a unique way of becoming one of your favourite musicians after a few singles. Following his single ‘Una Manzana Azul, Un Sueno Verde’, ‘Mitad de la Luna Roja’ presents audiences with traditional Latin music made for modern-day audiences.

An international collaboration of prominent musicians and producers from Chile, Greece, Cuba and Spain, ‘Mitad de la Luna Roja’ breathes life into vintage Latin pop, while weaving a kick of contemporary indie-folk through the melody. With an acoustic style, ‘Mitad de la Luna Roja’ delves into the hearty warmth of traditional Latin styles easily setting wings to your feet as you dance in joy; however, a seriousness lingers in the poignant poetic lyricism capturing the complexity of love and yearning. A duality of rich joyous sentimentality and the raw vulnerability of longing, ‘Mitad de la Luna Roja’ oscillates between optimism and tragedy in a soothing melody.

Along with the tune, which is already brimming with tenderness, sincerity exudes from Anabalón’s vocals. Smooth, silky and calming, his dulcet tones add to a tender love song. Then again, using the metaphor of a red moon, there is a mixture of passion and mystery as you travel along the path to self-discovery. This is my introduction to Patricio Anabalón, but if ‘Mitad de la Luna Roja’ is anything to go by, I’m eager to hear his new album La Noche Que Nunca Llega.
