Partners In Crime – Randy Girls (2024)

Music can be a place of comfortable solace, an exuberant crash of creative communication, an entertaining rush of moving melodies, and Partners In Crime is ready to share the love. Drawing together the musical stylings of friends Colin Whiteford and Doug Pegg, Partners In Crime may appear a relatively new duo (at least considering their Spotify streamlining begins in 2024); however, the Canadian pair have already turned heads hitting national charts with their song ‘Abnormal Psychotic Behaviour’, performed at major stadiums for Major League Baseball, confidently went onstage at notable venues across Canada, and featured on international publications, playlists and radio stations. This is my introduction to Partners In Crime, so join me as I dive into their single ‘Randy Girls’.

Taken from their self-titled album, ‘Randy Girls’ is considered a summer banger from the dynamic duo. Unlike their single ‘Abnormal Psychotic Behaviour’ which favours an 80s-influenced synth-pop style, or ‘Dancing In The Shadows’ leaning toward a rock tone, ‘Randy Girls’ embraces the 60s pop music sounds but with a tinge of blues exuding from the soulful saxophone.

Recorded and produced by Terry Gadsden and Fred Kinck Petersen, mixed by Doug McClement and mastered by Noah Mintz, ‘Randy Girls’ captures the laidback, chilled-out fun of a tremendous summer spent with friends while retaining an elegant production within the raw jubilance. Described by Pegg as a song “…about being carefree and going on a vacation and meeting beautiful girls…”, ‘Randy Girls’ has definitely hit the mark.

A concoction of old-school power-pop fluttered by indie-pop, and the aforementioned blues, the single swoons in its youthful innocence. However, just as you enjoy the sunshine fun of guitars, drums, horns and rich vocals, smile-inducing cheekiness oozes from the dancefloor-ready tune.

So, what do I think about ‘Randy Girls’ and Partners In Crime? Overall, a fantastic song by an inspiring duo set for stardom.
