Partefacts – Time Travel (2021)

With their debut single, Partefacts is telling a really interesting story through a layering of fizzy synths, post-punk vocals and disco drums. ‘Time Travel’ tells the tale of a three-eyed space boyfriend who hates commitment and happily hops around the timeline like a frequent flier. With their layered sound, the band is attacking any feelings of boredom with a blast of spontaneity, vivid creativity and wild sounds.

Christa Belle, Lani Bagley and Craig Schuftan came together after a big night out morphed into a day of studio experimentation and instrument swapping. Fusing together a psychedelic collage of sound, the band rearranges the familiar while quenching the thirst for something new and exciting many of us have. As debut singles go, this is an explosion of creativity, sound and amazing musicality.

‘Time Travel’ hits you with some groovy deep tones that have your head bopping and shoulders shimmying. There is a slightly futuristic feeling to the music that is tempered by the grounded bass. The melody is an amazing mixture of different styles and tones that come together for a really groovy and funky sound. There is a touch of disco mixing with deep pulsing beats and a dusting of rock-pop. If you were bored when you started listening to this track, the melody will leave that feeling in the dust. There are these otherworldly twinkling bells that bring a new dimension to the track.

While the melody mixed and matches sonic elements, the vocals have a wonderful textured flow. There is a light echo to the performance that adds to the futuristic or sci-fi edge of the track. The movement of the vocals slowly builds in your senses as you are led further and further into the single. As the single progresses, the vocals rise for an otherworldly edge that perfectly matches the story of the lyrics. In the latter parts of the track, there are some post-punk shouts. These shouts rest below the groovy vocal line for a delicate layering of space, time and music.

Partefacts hit you with a groovy, funky and otherworldly sound that is quite unlike anything else you might be hearing in ‘Time Travel’. The creativity of the band is on full display through the single as they pull elements of different genres and styles to create their futuristic tale. The vocals have an echoing edge before being layered over post-punk shouts and pull that draw you further into the tale of the track.
