Para Lia – Mind Song (2025)

Traipsing across various genres from post-punk to garage rock, psychedelia and indie-rock, German group Para Lia can be deemed a rock group but with a twist of their own. Dragging nostalgic sounds to modern-day audiences, Rene Methner (guitars, vocals and synth), Cindy Methner (vocals), Michael Schlottke (bass), Remo Ender (guitar), Dennis Grund (guitar) and Emanuel Mukow (drums) not only transcend genres, but transcend eras with the silvery thread of good music. A couple of years ago, we interviewed German group Para Lia about their album In Clash With The Zeitgeist. Today we take a gander into their latest release, ‘Mind Song’.

Two years after the critically acclaimed In Clash With The Zeitgeist, Para Lia draw together several flavours of rock in ‘Mind Song’. Recorded and produced at Berlin’s Lakeside Studio by Rene Methner, the new single is a concoction of grunge, alternative rock and classic rock – all dragging us back to the 1970s and 1990s, but a refreshingly new bounce lingers in the track. Soaring guitars join pounding drums, a bold bass, and shimmering synths peeking from beneath. Interestingly, while each element demands attention with individuality (shoutout to the classic rock riffs), the instruments unite in a harmonic rock symphony.

Weighty and hard-hitting, ‘Mind Song’ takes you on a sonic journey in the vivid melody; but it is the rich vocals that seem to tie things in a silvery bow. Brimming with warmth, comfort and acceptance, Methner’s dulcet tone embraces you like an old friend on a cold day. Lyrically, the song may delve into the challenges of life, but it also celebrates living in the present, maintaining a positive mind song, and oozes optimistic empowerment.
