Pam Ross – No One Around (2023)

Described as “raw and vulnerable” (Sinusoidal Music), “…gifted…one of the most impressive artists we know” (Iggy Magazine) and having melodies that are “…powerful and emotionally resonant” (Indie Music Flix), Pam Ross has been turning heads and intoxicating people far beyond her North American borders. Playing something audiences have started calling “Pam Music”, singer-songwriter Ross merges rock, country and Americana into a sound that is completely her own. With a history of open mic events across Texas, her original performance is engaging and tender. In 2022, she took the leap to release music on streaming sites reaching even more listeners across the globe – or at least according to Spotify. One of the more recent additions to her discography is the single ‘No One Around’.

Following her sophomore single ‘My Kinda Ride’, ‘No One Around’ is Ross’s third single to date; as well as her second in 2023. Hot on the heels of ‘My Kinda Ride’, the new song finds a line between old-school country and America. The combination of guitars and drums acts as a foundation for Ross’s bold vocals – and the interspersed piano seems to add an organic, barebones innocence to the melody. Interestingly enough, while Pam Ross’s music is unique, there is a comparison to 90s singers like Sheryl Crowe and Alanis Morrissette. More interestingly enough, ‘No One Around’ has a contemporary edginess bringing mellifluous and familiar sounds to 2023.

While the melody can hold its own as a soothing, soft and gentle base to the arrangement, it is Pam Ross’s dulcet vocals and lyricism that add depth to ‘No One Around’. Using a personal narrative, Pam Ross connects with audiences in ‘No One Around’. Reflecting on a forbidden love affair, the poignancy of the track slivers through a melancholic quality; however, the obscure lilt to Ross’s vocals with a soft piano in the background lifts our souls with a hopeful innocence.

Sincere, sentimental and filled with intimacy, Pam Ross layers raw vulnerability with a sophisticated arrangement in ‘No One Around’.
