Painted On – Wine Wandering Mind (2020)

Painted On are tackling the themes of mental health and creativity in their new single ‘Wine Wandering Mind’. These topics are placed within the turbulent society we currently live in to create a relatable song. Tuning their cinematic style to alternative pop, the duo gives you a taste of what is still to come on their upcoming 6-track EP.

While Hillary Capps and Anthony Farina met a decade ago via the once prolific Craigslist music classifieds, they only started Painted On last year. Their upcoming debut EP marks a turning point from side project to full effort. Combining their atmospheric sound with poetic lyrics, the band takes you on a voyage of self-discovery.

‘Wine Wandering Mind’ uses deep beats combined with lighter notes to draw you in. The atmospheric tone of the band is on full display from the first moment. The melody has this easy flow to it that remains for the entire single. However, there are these horns that come in later on that add this interesting layer to the song.

As you are gently led down the melody, the vocal performances add to the sonic texture. Both Capps and Farina have a chance to shine vocally as they rotate the verses between them. The chorus showcases their harmonisations as they sing together in this unbelievably unified manner. Their performance is gripping and will get you singing to the chorus. They are also able to deliver the uplifting message of the single in a way that you can’t help but be engaged.

Painted On takes you on a journey of self-discovery through their atmospheric single ‘Wine Wandering Mind’. While the track tackles some heavy topics, there is an easiness to the melody and a unification in the vocals that make it easy to digest. You are left feeling hopeful that you can take on the bad moments that are coming.
