Ormiston – Rebel (2021)

Merging elements of indie-pop, disco and funk, Ormiston is exploding onto the music scene with an infectious sound. Despite having “newbie” status, the Canadian singer-songwriter is receiving global recognition featured in When The Horn Blows, Clout, RGM, Turtle Tempo and many more publications. His debut single ‘Ormiston’ is receiving critical acclaim and is a great way to begin his career.

A dive right into the 1980s funk meets disco-pop scene, Ormiston’s ‘Rebel’ is infectious, fun and hypnotic. While we do plunge into old-school pop, the Montreal-based artist adds a contemporary indie-pop flavour to the mix. Expertly layered with various textures, ‘Rebel’ has a prominent guitar-driven style; however, the charming vocals stand out amidst the elements creating a harmonic cascade of sound.

A sonic representation of human fragility, innocence and redemption, ‘Rebel’ is a bold song about needing acceptance. Thing is, while Ormiston showcases his softer, more anxious side in ‘Rebel’, there is a lingering empowerment as he says he’s “a rebel sometimes and he knows”. The ebb and flow of the melody contribute to the heartwarming lyricism which is elegantly executed by Ormiston’s dulcet tones.

Hypnotic and addictive, the jovial pop song adds a slice of golden joy to the stagnant music scene.
