Orca – Good 4 You (2022)

There are a lot of love songs out there, but Orca is taking a different approach with their single ‘Good 4 You’. Using romance and love to set the mood for the track, the lyrics consider trying different things and getting different reactions when faced with someone you want to start a relationship with. At the centre of this is the single question of whether you are good for the person you want to make the first move on.

A very refreshing take on an age-old topic, Orca’s approach has you considering much more than the emotions woven into the song. This fresh approach is enhanced by the fact that Orca does everything themselves from writing to recording and basic mixing. Since they started releasing music at the start of last year, they have been steadily growing their following.

‘Good 4 You’ draws you in with a layered flow of deep beats and vocals. The beats vibrate through your chest and have you gently bopping to them. There is a light shuffle to the beats before a deep cavernous beat propels you down the soundscape. The bubbling of electronic tones is pure trap with a light dusting of hip-hop melodics. The melody packs the lower levels of the single while the vocals take over the higher levels. While there is a relatively simplistic feeling to the movement of the melody, this is utterly addictive as you can’t stop bopping to the sound. This also offers a foundation for the vocals to bounce off.

The autotune tone of the vocals merges with the flow of the electronic tones in the opening while the lyrics ask an important question. The electronic edging of the melodic vocal lines has them reaching out into the ether of the soundscape before springing back to close around you. The rap sections have a great bounce to the movement that brings delightful texture to the single. The lyrics draw you into the question of whether you are good for someone and the steps that many people take to get the attention of someone they like. While the single is infectious in its bouncing tone, the contemplative tone to the vocals bring a greater depth of emotion to the track.

Orca asks some important questions while working through the steps you can take to get the attention of someone you like in ‘Good 4 You’. The bounce of the single has you bopping away to the beats while the vocals draw you into a contemplation of relationships. The movement of the track is rather addictive as you can’t stop bopping to the beat while sliding down the melodic rap vocals.
