Olly E – Believe The Unseen (2023)

While you might glean slivers of In Flames and Linkin Park in Olly E’s music, the UK singer-songwriter is not one to be pigeon-holed. In our 2020 interview with Olly E, he shared that he comes from a heavy metal background but continues to “get inspiration from bands such as Twenty One Pilots and Yungblud to create a modern sound”. Take a quick listen to his music and you’ll find how he fuses retro with contemporary in a refreshing blast of sound.

Already hitting our virtual desks a few years ago, Olly E turned our heads with the single ‘I Refuse’. We are not the only ones whose heads have been turned. Along with various international publications, playlists, radio stations (including BBC Radio), and powerful performances across the UK, Olly E is building a following in and beyond his UK borders. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Believe The Unseen’.

Following his releases ‘Everlasting’ and ‘Connections’, ‘Believe The Unseen’ is Olly E’s first single of 2023. Finding the balance between the hard ‘Everlasting’ and nu-metal-influenced ‘Connections’, the new single brings the brightness of twinkling synths shimmering around a brash, bold and powerful alternative rock melody.

One aspect I love about Olly E is how his songs are direct, blunt, in-your-face and hide nothing. ‘Believe The Unseen’ tips its hat at the tumultuous rock/metal of the 90s engulfing listeners in a dark mire with reckless abandon. Yet, while the crashing waves leap at each turn, hopefulness lies in the scorching guitar-driven melody. Known for his focus on mental health awareness, Olly E reaches out a friendly hand to navigate uncertainty and fear in ‘Believe The Unseen’.

“The new single ‘Believe The Unseen’ was written at a time when Olly was learning about metaphysics and began collecting crystals. Whilst writing the song he gazed into a Citrine crystal known for positive energy, wealth and prosperity which shaped the track giving it a lifting melody”.

In addition to the single, Olly E released an official lyric video for ‘Believe The Unseen’. You can view the video below or on his official YouTube channel.
