Nyki Lindsay King – Running Out Of Time (2024)
With a music journey dating back to 1983, Nyki Lindsay King took to the stage at the tender age of seven prompted by his father Eric George Lindsay. Performing a range of funk, soul, reggae and RnB, King’s first experience already whispered hints of diversity with natural musical talent. A “’90s kid”, the Canadian artist was influenced by artists like Kurt Cobain, Chester Bennington and Three Days Grace; however, as his vintage inspiration oozes from his original work, a contemporary edginess exists with King’s eclectic almost inimitable sound. The latest addition to King’s discography is the single ‘Running Out Of Time’.
Following his critically acclaimed single ‘Don’t Box Me In’, King’s ‘Running Out Of Time’ is a hard-hitting fusion of alternative rock and hard rock. He saunters through the gruff mire of 90s rock breathing life into the nostalgic waves of Linkin Park; in fact, my ears hear a strong reminiscence of the iconic Chester Bennington. Yet, as I mentioned before, individuality lingers through King’s music, ‘Running Out Of Time’ highlighting his similarity to Bennington but with a tinge of King resting within the nu-metal sound.
Recorded with engineer Bobby John in Montreal, King pays close attention to almost all elements of the composition, which might contribute to the intimate intensity of ‘Passing Out Of Time’. A true labour of love, King’s gritty vocals flood with raw emotion and the track seems to share a part of him within a kaleidoscopic single. Not a song merely to be heard, ‘Running Out Of Time’ must be felt and experienced with vivid imagery and soul-stirring potency.
Melodically, ‘Running Out Of Time’ is to be admired with crashing drums, a pulsating bass, soaring guitars, and King’s rich vocals binding everything together. The thing is, as inspiring as the melody is, it is the lyricism that adds depth to the track. Poetically entwined, the moving words delve into the struggles faced in our uncertain society. King explains:
“The single ‘Running Out Of Time’ is a song about how corrupted the world really is… and we better change something because we are running out of time… I describe the fall of society and freedom due to too many people following the crowd in this life cycle…”
