Nikita – Kill Her Mind (2025)

After seeing Taylor Swift perform on television – and her father pointing at the screen saying “Look at her” – singer-songwriter Nikita knew exactly who she wanted to be and exactly what she wanted to do. So, she might not be Tay Tay, but Nikita is quickly carving a niche in the indie music scene. Personal, intimate and brutally honest, the US-based musician creates solace for listeners, letting us know that you’re not alone even when it feels as though you’re the only one facing uncertainty. Join us as we delve into her new single, ‘Kill Her Mind’.

Taken from her upcoming EP, Waiting – an EP focusing on the emotional chaos of heartbreak – ‘Kill Her Mind’ captures the concept of toxic overthinking. Almost like taking a sneaky peek into her personal diary, lyrically, ‘Kill Her Mind’ is a poetic insight into obsession, frustration and isolation. Nikita explains:

“It’s about wanting to stop thinking. Wanting to let go but also knowing you can’t. It’s like your mind is working against you, replaying things over and over, and you just want it to shut off.”

The words themselves lead you through confusion and inner uncertainty; however, it is the melody that breathes life into its reflective sentimentality and raw emotion. Perfectly executed with silky, soft, smooth and soothing vocals, Nikita wraps you in a surreal soundscape. A modern-day siren, she quickly turns your head, hypnotising you with delicate vocals; however, as with sirens, the journey is not a smooth one. No, you won’t find yourself dashed against the rocks, but ‘Kill Her Mind’ has a similar darkness to it.

Produced by Richie Quake, ‘Kill Her Mind’ is a sophisticated flood of synth-driven pop with bold beats pulsating in the background. Interestingly, the smooth melody begins with a velveteen tone, but the rippled repetition of beats and Nikita’s voice pricks like a speedy drip of water into a sonic pool. Oscillating from soul-calming gentleness and gut-wrenching trepidation, Nikita showcases her skill of capturing intricate emotion in ‘Kill Her Mind’.
