Nicole Saphos Band – More (2023)

If Fiona Apple and Regina Spektor were to have a child but it was raised by Tori Amos, the chances are likely Nicole Saphos would be it. Explosive but gentle; tender but ferocious; bold but whimsically soft – the Nicole Saphos Band has something for everyone. Featured in various publications, such as CLOUT, Mesmerized, Sinusoidal Music, Edgar Allan Poets and Illustrate Magazine, award-winning Saphos has an international following. The latest addition to her repertoire is the single ‘More’.

Following the well-received track ‘Keepin’ Eyes’, Nicole Saphos once again lies somewhere between Fiona Apple and Joni Mitchell in ‘More’. Yet, unlike her previous material, there is a more soothing, calmer and sincere tone to ‘More’. Jazz-inspired, the single can fit in any smoky jazz club but there is a leaning toward folk-pop within the arrangement. A heartfelt combination of guitars and drums wraps about Saphos’ unique vocals enhancing the sentimentality of the single. The thing is, once again surprising us, a dip into rock-inspired guitar riffs twirls you about before Saphos ends with her question: “maybe another life, maybe another world”

One aspect of Nicole Saphos’ music that really captures my heart is her vivaciousness. The track might be whimsical with wistful sensibilities, but a bold richness has her shining out in the crowd. ‘More’ has an acoustic feeling yet, once again, the song is more kaleidoscopic and explosive than the loudest My Chemical Romance tune. A simplistic cheekiness oozes from the song and you can feel the palpable sassiness of this sophisticated artist.
