Nick Noon – Bring Out The Sunshine (2022)

On a route to share his intriguing, engaging and powerful music with the masses, singer-songwriter Nick Noon is considered an eclectic and obscure artist. Described by The Static Dive as having “a brilliant lyrical style similar to the great workingman poets like Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams and Bob Dylan”, Noon has an elegant nostalgia and intimacy to his work. Yet, while there are elements of old-school styles in his music, Nick Noon retains a relatable contemporary quality bringing an edginess to his style. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Bring Out The Sunshine’.

Hot on the heels of his single ‘Costumes’, the US-based artist (based in Nashville to be exact) adopts a modern indie-pop meets indie-rock sound in ‘Bring Out The Sunshine’. Taking you back to the pop tunes of the 1970s and 1980s, the melody breathes an air of nostalgia but also a contemporary indie punch into the soundscape. Fresh but familiar, ‘Bring Out The Sunshine’ has a flowing rhythmic arrangement setting the stage for a gentle journey in a sonic forest.

While Nick Noon has been compared to Bob Dylan and Hank Williams, I hear a sound reminiscent of the Beatles in the new single. The jangle-pop guitars have a prominent role in carrying Noon’s rich, full-bodied vocals. Easy to listen to and quite laidback, ‘Bring Out The Sunshine’ has a jovial quality to its groovy vibes. Interestingly enough, while a pop smoothness does exist, the guitar solo brings a strong rock vibe to the perfectly packaged gem of a song.

So, melodically, ‘Bring Out The Sunshine’ is a song that can be played on full blast while driving down the road in your Cadillac; however, the lyricism is just as moving. Penned as a song filled with positivity, optimism and appreciation of life, ‘Bring Out The Sunshine’ is sensitive and sentimental with a bright attitude.
