Natalie Clark – I See You (2021)
With iconic names like Christina Aguilera and Richard Branson praising her work, it’s no wonder that pop singer Natalie Clark is building a loyal following. Described as having a “vibrant pop sound”, Clark has opened festivals, toured the USA and performed with Grammy award-winning group Indigo Girls. This is not our first encounter with Clark having reviewed her single ‘Ready To Roll’ (read our review here), but it is as intriguing. In fact, listening to the new single is like listening to Natalie Clark for the first time. If you hadn’t heard her enchanting voice before, I’d like to introduce you to the insatiable Natalie Clark with ‘I See You’.
Originally from Scotland, Clark chose to pursue her dream of creating music by moving to Los Angeles. This is not the first time Clark tasted the hint of a music career as she made headlines with Richard Branson invited her to perform at a BBC Radio 1 Academy session and the rest is history.
Following her upbeat track ‘Ready To Roll’, the songstress adopts a slower tone in ‘I See You’. Reminiscent of Shania Twain and Avril Lavigne, there is a folk meets pop-rock design in her latest single. I know Avril Lavigne is not necessarily mentioned alongside Shania Twain or Lana Del Rey, but the melting pot of female sounds is evident in Clark’s sophisticated tune. What I find intriguing about this latest song is how it showcases the versatility of the artist within the pop genre.
Natalie Clark shares that the inspiration for ‘I See You’ came “after watching an interview with Michelle Obama and Oprah talking about helping people, especially young women and kids to feel seen and heard.” Using an intimate narrative, ‘I See You’ is an exploration of the vulnerabilities we face as human beings; however, there is a strong optimism in reassuring listeners of their importance and worthfulness. It’s a brilliantly crafted track promoting empowerment and positivity in such a smooth and beautiful way.
