Naked Face – Eyes In Love (2023)

From Carte Blanche Music to Havoc Underground, Rising Artists Blog, Edgar Allan Poets, and Indie O’Clock (to name only a few), electropop duo Naked Face have been described as “impressive”, “catchy and anthemic”, and “…making it pretty damn impossible to not love them”. Along with this critical acclaim, Australian Naked Face is garnering international attention with their hard-hitting music being chart-topping on Triple J Unearthed. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Eyes In Love’.

Following their well-received track ‘If In Doubt’, Steve Slik and Luke House burst into 2023 with ‘Eyes In Love’. Melding elements of EDM and commercial pop, ‘Eyes In Love’ transports you to a synth-driven plain of sonic existence. While the electronic beats seem to toss you from one post to another in a sense of kaleidoscopic craziness; the song captures you in a warm sonic hug and carries you along the melody. Yet, as the melodic arrangement really captures your imagination and soul in its stirring soundscape, there is a relative simplicity at the core of ‘Eyes In Love’. A stillness deep in Slik’s vocals is revived by the powerful instrumentation.

Just as the melody of ‘Eyes In Love’ slips beneath your skin, so do the lyrics and the overall theme. Easily capturing the theme of dependency, toxic relationships, betrayal and the turmoil felt when dealing with these challenging situations, ‘Eyes In Love’ drips vulnerability from every chord. The thing is, just as vulnerable and intensely intimate as profound themes, ‘Eyes In Love’ has a hopeful quality as Naked Face aims to help others who are dealing with similar life experiences.

“I wrote the song about my struggles with a deteriorating, tumultuous relationship whilst also battling a severe post-surgical opioid addiction. I wrote the song to hopefully help the millions of people suffering similar experiences and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even though I’m still going through the after-effects to this day.” – Steve Slik on ‘Eyes In Love’
