Nadia Kazmi – Have You Here (2022)

Renowned for her eclectic, engaging and unique music, singer-songwriter Nadia Kazmi melds elements of Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and Patti Smith. No stranger to the music industry, Kazmi has not only had successful European tours, featured in notable magazines, been placed on numerous playlists, but also found her music on the show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Described as poetic, philosophical, engaging and humbling, Nadia Kazmi is a force to be reckoned with. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Have You Here’.

Following the remix of her song ‘Gold Into Dust’ (recorded with Cru The Dynamic), ‘Have You Here’ is an indie-rock track with nostalgic old-school Kate Bush mixed into a contemporary form of pop. A kaleidoscopic musical arrangement, ‘Have You Here’ combines pounding drums, dynamic guitars and an interspersed piano within the soundscape. While there is a rich rush of guitars and drums, I find the piano one of the most intriguing aspects of the melody. A melancholic tune, but with an upbeat flair, Kazmi appears to find that line between organic and synthetic in the harmonious arrangement.

As I mentioned, I find the piano one of the more interesting aspects of ‘Have You Here’ as it seems to represent the intense intimacy of the track. Inspired by youthful experiences of love and loss, Kazmi connects with audiences on a heartfelt level. The richness of her vocals brings a sense of strength, but they also ooze desperation and heartache. Listening to this track is like being tossed into a sonic whirlpool with little dots of coloured light flashing before your eyes – completely overwhelming and intoxicating.
